Welcome to Rankin Gumbo. Rankin County is a mish-mash of various demographics, cities, lifestyle, culture, and politics. South Rankin has a different, slower vibe, Pearl has the largest population with a thrown together sort of feel, Brandon is the county seat with history, Flowood has only 10,000 or so residents but a surprising number of retail businesses, Pelahatchie and Puckett are both pretty small and country, while the unincorporated Brandon 39047 has the reservoir and more modern feel. They all have plenty in common – most have a shared water system with high water bills, homes are primarily affordable, there’s an above average safety rating with low crime, and all offer great places to live.

With small town living, we also have plenty of small town politics and drama. Hardly any town in the county is immume. Whether it’s at the county level, city level, police, sheriff, or zoning, “who” you are and “who” you know still plays a part in the area. Tthere’s a few who create drama, have poor politics, under the table deals, or otherwise undercover deals. Neighboring Jackson has jambalaya – Rankin County now has gumbo – a mix of information on things you may not know about in Rankin County, but maybe you should.
